Google Maps offers offline support, Uber integration

May 7, 2014

Google Maps is offering offline support and options to save maps as the company moves to integrate with everything from restaurant listings to train schedules and Uber.

The changes, outlined in a blog post, highlight how Google is upping the ante in mapping technologies. Nokia, now free of a money losing handset unit, Microsoft and Apple are other mobile mapping players.

Google's move to offer offline access is a nod to the fact that the cloud and connections may not always be available. Offline maps are a settings under profiles.
